A nut named Benjamin Creme (no, I didn't make that up) is holding a
press conference at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel in Los Angeles on
Tuesday to announce the arrival of a ancient
person/entity/spirit/guru/saint he calls Maitreya who will announce
all the details about the Second Coming of Jesus Christ. Remember
him? He's the guy who promised, and promised, and promised, to
return, but his dad wouldn't let him. But don't hold your breath.
Mr. Creme has been holding these press conferences for more than ten
years now, and his client hasn't yet shown. He says that Maitreya has
been "living in obscurity in London since 1977." Little wonder.

Creme says that Maitreya would like to appear on a major TV show like
The Tonight Show or Dave Letterman "so he can telepathically
communicate with everyone around the world." And, says Creme, Christ
is currently living in Rome and is waiting to hear the outcome of the
Maitreya press conference before he himself reappears. Promises,
promises!
