The use of various gemstones for their vibrational support was recommended by Edgar Cayce and many other spiritual teachers.
"So whether from vibration of numbers, of metals, of stones, these are merely to become necessary influences to make thee in attune, one with the Creative Forces ... so, use them to attune self..." (Cayce reading 707-2)
The lapis lazuli is prominent in the Cayce readings. It was referred to as "blue gold" by European artists of the Renaissance. It was prized in ancient Egypt and Babylonia. The pharaohs favored it and were buried in their tombs with objects incorporating lapis. The Cayce readings suggested it be used for healing as well as for its vibratory support for spiritual attunement.
In Kathleen Roquemore's book on numerology, It's All In Your Numbers, she identifies lapis lazuli with the number 33. Some years ago, when I was browsing through books at the East West Bookstore, I stumbled onto a book on astrology which stated that the Declaration of Independence was not signed on July 4th but on July 5th. It dawned on me later to numerologically check that date and I was very excited to find that July 5, 1776 vibrates to a 33 vibration. Indeed, the birthdate of Thomas Jefferson vibrates to a 33, as does the ratification of the U.S. Constitution (July 2, 1788).
Joseph and Kathleen Meade, in a course given at the A.R.E. years ago, taught that the Cayce readings indicate that Jesus had 33 incarnations in the earth and that he had 33 vertebrae in his spine. The Bible indicates that He was 33 years old when He was crucified.
At this point you, the reader, may well ask: where is all this going? What's the point of all this?
For one thing, the above would indicate why lapis lazuli is so prominent of all the gemstones in the Cayce readings. I believe Cayce was psychicly picking up powerful spiritual and healing qualities of this gemstone.
The deep sky-blue of this stone indicates the profound spirituality of the foundation of the United States. One might say lapis lazuli is the birthstone of the United States and therefore, the birthstone of each of us in the sense that we are Americans and live in America. Indeed, the word 'Americas' also vibrates to 33.
Somehow, I feel we have lost our cohesion, our ties to each other, in the sense that we are one in spirit, of the same human family, and have value and worth. Even the smallest gestures of good will and courtesy seem to have been lost. Cohesion refers to mutual respect and caring, to a degree of brotherhood and sisterhood. We as a society seem to have lost even minimal remnants of cohesion in our haste. When a society loses cohesion and acts of good will and courtesy, then the deep, rich, sky-blue color of the lapis lazuli could serve as a reminder of what the purpose of life really is .
