Memorial Day 2004 - West Point Lake

Memorial Day 2004 weekend camping trip to West Point Lake. Stayed in Kee Kee group site at Holiday Campground with several other families from Barnesville. Friends from Stockbridge also camped with us. Weather was just so-so. It rained pretty hard Friday night and we had to put up a big tarp for shelter. The tents leaked a little but we survived. It rained Saturday morning until about lunch and then we were finally able to get boats into the water. Sunday was very nice although a little cloudy. It got very windy Sunday night and woke to more rain on Monday. Basically broke camp (in the rain) and came home to clean up and dry out.

Entrance to the Kee Kee group site at Holiday Campground on Westpoint Lake. There are 5 RV sites in a small circle plus 5 tent sites (no hookups). There were 4 5th wheels, a TT and 3 tent pads in use. Plus, several of the RV had setup "kids tents" behind their RV. We also had 3 PWCs, a pontoon and 3 or 4 I/Os over the weekend. I won't mention the amount of food and adult beverage consumed!
A shot of "tent city" with my son Sammy and Mambajack's (from Boating ABC.com) son.
Another shot of tent city.
The boys eating pop tarts.
The tarp we had to string up to stay dry Friday night. The tarp was nicknamed "redneck awning".
The group pavilion as seen from the shoreline. Notice the big grill on wheels!!! One of the campers made it from an old propane tank. I think it holds 40lbs of charcoal!
Our camping friends new TT. They bought a a popup camper last year traded up to a TT by summers end.
Shot of our cove overlooking the main lake. The dam is about 5-1/2 miles dead ahead. Note the lack of boat traffic for a holiday weekend. Pic was taken about 1hr after rain ended. It never got very crowded at all. Water level was down about 1.5' and temp was 81*
"Hot Byte" and Mambajack's Stingray at the campsite after a day on the water. Notice the orange band of water around the shoreline. Boat wakes stir the red Georgia clay up and make a mess of everything. I kept a big cup on boat and rinsed it with "clean" lake water everytime we went out.
Another shot of the boats.
A little zoomed in shot.
The pontoon and one of the PWC at camp. You can also see one of the runabouts behind the pontoon.
Mambajack's daughter doing a Hawaiin pose with a flower they found on shore.
Katie taking her own pic.
Mambajack's daughter.
The boats rafted to catch a little sun and swimming.
The girls tubing...That boat behind us is Mambajack pulling the two boys.
