2000
I know I promised not to put too many Tweetsie photos
on here, but the sun was so low and the lighting so dramatic,
that I had take a few shots. This showed off the real "graphite"
smokebox color so well I had to include it. The engineer told
me it had been just applied, and was the "real" graphite,
not paint. A mixture of oil and graphite slathered on bare metal
and allowed to cook on the hot smokebox leaves a coating that
will withstand almost anything. No wonder steam locomotives always
smell so good.
