This is looking back east from the end of the loading
dock of the old CC&O depot. It almost looks like a passenger
platform, but the Clinchfield had very little passenger service
and this would have been for freight. Someone jump in here and
correct me please. It had a long open platform area, then a long
enclosed freight storage area, all connected to a large, two
story, brick office building. Hate to see it torn down and put
up a self-storage business.
This overhead structure would make a nice model if
scratch-built. Probably lots of overheads were built like this.
Note how the gutters from the roof are integrated into the post
structure and empty into clay water pipe.
