Here's the west stone abutment for the wood deck covered
bridge at Hampton with the mighty Doe River gurgling along underneath.
I'm standing on the old Highway 19E bridge here. You can just
make out the extra step at the bottom right of the abutment that
was added in later years for some wood timbers for additional
support of the bridge. The abutment on my side of the river was
originally just like this one, but was later surrounded by formed
concrete to strengthen it. They are both still standing, although
the main highway (new highway 19E) to the right was widened and
has encroached on this revered site.
