1994
This is the superintendent of the railroad's house on the high
hill between Elk Park and Cranberry. It kinda looks down on the substation
there where 19E cuts off and goes into Cranberry. It had been lived in
until shortly before 1994. Cliff Ward and I went in (despite the posted
signs) and shot a few pictures. The stairway to the second floor looked
about to give way so I never made it up there. Wish I had though. There's
my ubiquitous yard stick in the middle of the vines on this side of the
house for anyone who wants to scale this thing out. I will one of these
days. This side faces the curving, very steep, gravel road that turns and
continues behind me on up to the old right-of-way, which has now been named
Iron Street. The front of the house is on the right. The porch has fallen
in. The kitchen is on the far side of the house and had a two story bay
arrangement. There is a window (believe it or not) behind the ivy on the
first floor on the right side of this side of the house that had some amber
colored glass around the edges similar to a stained glass window. The clapboard
siding had been painted blue at one time, but that was many years ago.
The siding is in remarkable shape to have stood up to this damp weather
for this many years with no protection. Not sure what kind of wood it is.
