This is Buffalo Creek bridge, between Johnson City and Elizabethton.
We're looking back toward Johnson City here. You can stand in Buffalo Creek
here and hardly get wet, it's about 8 inches deep. You can walk out to
the middle of it, as I did, on the rocks. There are 2 formed concrete supports,
2 formed concrete abutments with wing walls, and 2 of these supports that
almost look homemade. I don't know what kind of support was here when this
bridge was converted to a steel plate girder, but the concrete support
here looks much newer than the large ones, and the steel support legs actually
do look like the railroad made them. This was originally a wooden half-thru
girder bridge, really interesting looking. I guess you can tell that I
really like bridges, huh?
