Notes
City Farmer, published by Canada's Office of Urban Agriculture, is considered
the "granddad" of urban agriculture sites. While it's focus is not strictly
community gardens, it contains important information & links on the subject.
The site is essential reading for those interested in the broader topic
of urban agriculture.
Food Share
Based in Toronto, Food Share examines the entire food system,
including production, distribution and consumption. In the area
of production, this groups assists others in starting and maintaining

An important force in St. Louis, Missouri, this organization
provides resources to community gardens in the area. Check out

Green Guerillas
The Green Guerillas are an important community organization
in New York City; learn about their history on this site. Also

Green Thumb
Another organization from New York City. The Green Thumb site
contains very current information: current publications in PDF
format; current events; grant information and a database for
finding area community gardens.
Maricopa County
Cooperative Extension
While much of the information presented on this site is specifically
for Maricopa County in Arizona, it does include important funding
information (under the Community Gardens link) and information about
Master Gardener programs. Be sure to look for a cooperative extension
in your area.
Neighborhood Gardens Association
Located in Philadelphia, this organization has the mission of supporting
the long term preservation of community-managed green spaces. As a
land trust which actually owns the land of some gardens, this group
provides a unique resource to the urban gardening community. Their
website includes information about starting a land trust.
San Francisco League of Urban Gardeners
SLUG is a grassroots organization which develops community
projects in San Fransisco. Their site contains information about
their organization and programs, and about soil testing.
Seattle Tilth
This non-profit organization began with a community garden. Their
site contains articles about sustainable growing, and information
about internships. It also presents information about the organization
itself.
Seeds of Hope...Harvest
of Pride!
This site is maintained by Ohio State University Extension's
Urban Gardening Program. All of the gardening tips offered here
are strictly for the Ohio area. The site also presents sources
for seeds, recipes, and, most importantly, information about
the benefits of community gardening.
