GENERAL POLICIES: PSYCHOLOGY
2230
T-Square
- Students are required to keep
up with class information on t-square and the class website at
www.mindspring.com/~dileader.
Tests:
- We will have four tests this
semester, equally weighted.
- Tests are multiple choice
and/or short answers. They are non-cumulative, except for general concepts
and integrative ideas which you are expected to develop as the course
progresses.
- Scheduled tests will be given
at the planned times (barring serious unexpected circumstances). But I do
reserve the right to modify which material will be on a test, depending on
what has been covered in class and the book.
- You are responsible
for obtaining any relevant information if you miss class. This includes
material presented in class that may not be covered in the textbook, as
well as information about tests and assignments.
Grading:
Final course grade will be worked
out as follows:
Add
together scores on the four tests, divide by 4; max 100%.
(Note that there will be some
scheduled in-class quizzes, mostly on case studies, which will serve as
questions to be counted on the next test.)
Add
up to 4% for extra credit; max 104%.
Minimum percent for letter grades are as follows:
- A: 90%
- B: 80%
- C: 70%
- D: 60%
Pass/Fail students require a minimum grade of C to pass the
course
Makeup tests:
In the interests of fairness to
all, makeup tests will not be given, except
- in cases of prearranged
excused absences, with documentation, e.g. Tech sports teams
- in
cases of dire circumstances or illness, with appropriate documentation and
timely notice, which means you must leave an email or voicemail
message before the scheduled time of the missed test.
- Makeup test scores may be
adjusted downwards if they are substantially higher than the student's
other tests.
- No makeup tests are allowed
after the class test has been reviewed in class.
Honor Code:
Everyone is
expected to adhere to the Georgia Tech Honor Code.
Extra credit:
- You can earn up to 4% extra
credit added to the final grade for any combination of extra-credit
assignments and/or research participation.
- Extra-credit assignments
will vary in format and will be worth up to a total of 4% added on to the
total grade. Some may be in-class activities, and for those you will need
to be present. Out-of-class assignments must be submitted when due.
- You may participate in
experiments in the psychology department for extra credit. You will be
credited 1% per hour of experiments, up to the max available of 4%. To
sign up for psychology experiments click on http://www.experimetrix.com/gatech.
Click on new.user to get a password and set up a
profile. For problems email Dr. Gregory Corso at
gregory.corso@psych.gatech.edu. After doing the experiment/s you must
actively assign your points to this class to receive extra credit for this
course.
Attendance:
You are expected to attend class. Attendance
will be taken (counting for 25 of 600 points for the course grade), scheduled
or pop quizzes may be given, in-class extra-credit opportunities may be
offered, and questions included on tests will cover material from class that
may not be in your textbook. Attendance will be considered in making
discretionary decisions, such as decisions on borderline grades, or should
other problems arise. Should you miss class you are responsible for
keeping up with all material and information covered in class.
Participation:
I welcome and invite your
participation in class. It is usually helpful and informative for your fellow
students, being involved helps you to learn more, and class participation
stimulates me to do a better job of teaching.
Problems:
Please see me as soon as
possible to discuss any concerns that arise, so that we can work
together to help you meet your goals for this course. Don't leave it to the
last minute when it's too late to do anything constructive.
