Training
for emergencies
I
design and teach courses that help people prepare for safe wilderness
experiences and cope with emergencies in both wilderness and urban
situations. The long courses such as Wilderness First Responder are
designed mainly for people who have a duty to act, or are responsible
for the safety of others: trip leaders and guides, ski patrollers, and
rescue team members; and for people who do serious wilderness
activities that take them far from medical help. The shorter courses,
such as Wilderness First Aid and Basic WFA, focus on what
recreationists and leaders of short wilderness trips need to know, with
a lot of hands-on skills and scenario practice packed into relatively
few hours. I also offer workshops and seminars on specific topics.

Private
courses
If you have a group of people who need training and
certification in any of my courses, I can come to your facility and
teach the course. My rates are reasonable, and I offer discounts to
volunteer-based, non-profit organizations. Just send me an e-mail and
let me know what you need.
Learning
to teach
I
am an Instructor Trainer in first aid and CPR, as well as my wilderness
program, for the American Safety & Health Institute; so I can train
and certify ASHI instructors and help develop
local programs. My
comprehensive textbook (available from ASHI) shows you how to do
wilderness emergency care skills, step by step, as well as explaining
the topics. My Instructor Guide will help you to plan, organize, and
teach the ASHI wilderness courses, or any other courses that focus on
practical skills. I can also conduct
customized instructor classes that train people to do everything from
short presentations to long courses. This training is very
interactive and can include course and lesson planning, class
management, administration, evaluation, and testing as well as
teaching methods, depending on your needs. For details about the
courses, see the menu below. Any questions? Send me an e-mail - just
click on my e-mail address below.
