Pictures from Costa Rica
I got married in May of 1996 and we went to Costa Rica on our honeymoon. Here are some pictures from there:
-
Hotel Grano de Oro. This is where we stayed while in the capital, San Jose. The door to our room was right behind me in the picture and we enjoyed the courtyard a lot.
- Volcano Irazu Yellow Water. This volcano was dormant. If the weather is clear you are supposed to be able to see both the Caribbean and the Pacific.
- Dried Lava. Here is some interestingly textured lava across the crater of Irazu.
-
Trogon Lodge. We stayed at the Trogon Lodge in the tiny valley of St. Gerardo de Dota. This is one of the most beautiful places I have ever been. The steep lush valley was peaceful and serene. We saw hummingbirds as we ate breakfast and later as we hiked through the woods.
-
Stream near Trogon. This is a stream near Trogon Lodge. It actually looks a little like some places where I've hiked in North Georgia.
-
Palm Plantation. These are palm trees being grown for palm oil along one of the worst roads I have ever driven on.
-
Manuel Antonio. We spent two days on the Pacific Coast and one day it actually didn't rain. Fortunately it was the day we went to the beach at Manuel Antonio National Park. You have to wade up to your knees to get into the park and there were no vendors, just tourists, monkeys, brightly colored crabs, and lots of birds.
-
Monkey. We saw several monkeys on a hike in Manuel Antonio park.
-
Chicken and child. Driving back to San Jose we stopped to eat in Jaco. This little boy was playing with some chickens in the kitchen and near the cash register.
-
Braulio Carillio. We stopped at Braulio Carillio rain forest preserve and hiked through it. There were lots of leaf cutter ants there but they don't show up in pictures. This tree was pretty neat.
-
Rain Forest Bridge. We crossed this pedestrian suspension bridge as we went to the Rain Forest Tram. It was like Jurassic Park but no dinosaurs.
-
Rain Forest Tram. We rode this tram through the rain forest that showed us different levels of the forest. Only two or three meters were cut through the forest for the tram since it follows the same path at different heights for the round trip.
-
Rain Forest Canopy. Here is a view of the rain forest canopy. I thought this was the highlight of the trip to Costa Rica, but the photos and video don't do it justice. You had to be there to feel the humidity, hear the insects and birds, and smell the jungle.
-
Coatimundi. We saw a bunch of these guys in the trees but the only picture I got was this one.
