COMMENTS= my grandfather was henry glover medaris born 09-20-1892 and died in Nov 1965 in Dallas, Texas. He was from Kentucky I think. We knew very little about his family. He did serve in WWI. We have a letter documenting this. I am interested in knowing about my family history.

COMMENTS= I have some added information for you, which I actually got from my mother, Willidean Medearis Catton. Down the Oliver tree, on Lewis Medaris, His name was actually James Lewis. He and Nancy had 4 children. 1. Nellie (which you have) she married ??? Brittingham 2. Roy (which you have) but they had 3 children, you have Raymond, they also had Leo and Gracie, she married a Durand and had 3 children. 3. Blanche and 4. Willie, who died in a drowning accident at the age of 2. James and Sinnta did have 5 children, 1. Earl was married to Margaret, they had no children. 2. Frank married Marie Forbes they had 2 children James who was born in 1936 and Elsie who was born in 1938 and died in 1988. 3. Walter married Julia Carlson and they had James, Mae and Wesley, Walter is burried in Snareville cemetery in Stark County along with his parents. 4. Wilber (note spelling) had the 2 children George was born in January 1925 and died in November 1998, he is buried at the Rock Island Arsenal Cemetery, Willidean (note spelling) is married to a Catton, she has one daughter, me ( Karmella) George has 3 children Georgie, Margola and Gary (deceased 1997) 5 Arnold married Irma Smith for his 2nd marriage, not sure who the 1st was. He and his 1st wife had one daughter, Jean. 2nd marriage he had 5 children, Elwood who is deceased, Russell, Lucille, Charles, and Jerry who is also deceased from a self-inflicted gun shot wound. COMMENTS= I've visited the site before, but I just thought I'd let you know about the newest Medaris. My wife, Dana Renee (Dick) Medaris, gave birth to our first son, Guy Deacon Medaris on 2-15-06. In the Rice line he is the grandson of Rodney Earl, son of Earl Clarence, son of Guy Duane, son of Joseph Dimmitt, son of Rice, son of Charles (6). If we ever make it around to son number 2, he will be a rice. Also, the state of Illionois just awarded our family with the "century farm" award for the Medaris farm which has been in the family for 100 years...since Joseph Dimmitt. I know this info isn't necessarily something you can post, but I thought you might be interested. I love the site and often brag to work colleagues that my ancestors fought in the Revolutionary War. Keep up the great work and let me know if you ever need any more info on the generations from Guy Duane Sr. on down.

COMMENTS= Thomas Madaris married my great grandmother Nancy Smith McAlily on 31, Dec 1868 in Gadsden County, FL. Thomas died in April of 1869 and my grandfather was born July 26, 1869. The only name I ever knew him by was John Darus. In the 1900 census, Nancy is living with him in Cairo, Ga. By the 1910 census, she has disappeared. She is buried in Midway Cemetery in Cairo, GA--there are two Midway cemeteries. Question: Who was John Darus's father? Was John born premature, was Nancy pregnant with Thomas' child when they married, or is another person John's father?

COMMENTS= Hey Kelly, I have a renewed interest in my Medearis geneology since a visit yesterday and today from Bev Hockett (11)--she and her husband were passing through and called me--I'd forgotten I had given her my phone number nearly three years ago! As a result of her visit, I was even able to draw out my 73 year old dad and have him interject some anecdotes as well. Anyway, I will have a few minor corrections and some new info (though I'm afraid none earthshattering) that I will be sending once I have had an opportunity to sift through. Bev also has some wonderful photographs which she was kind enough to let me reproduce, so I plan to scan those and forward to you as well.

COMMENTS= It is listed that Wm H. Madaris (7) married Isabelle Pyatt in 1843. Their children are listed with the oldest child Elizabeth Ann as well as her sibblings as we have them listed however Elizabeth Ann wa actually born March 13, 1844 and died in 1881 in Lawrence Co, IN, she was married and she was my Great-Grandmother. Her mothers name was Isabelle Pyatt and the Pyatt family actually followed them to Wright Co, MO. The Medaris family traveled to Jackson Co, IN at the beginning of the Civil war. Elizabeth Ann met and married my great grandfather Wesley Vaughn in about 1865. Isabell died in Jackson Co. W. H. Medaris married the widow Moore and upon their return to MO became listed as the McDaris. Their name was not listed in the census as MCDaris until the 1870 Wright Co census. Interestingly my grandfather remembered his mother as a beautiful indian lady with long blue/black hair, my father also appeared as dark complexioned high cheekbones and blue/black hair. It's so confusing. I was so glad to see the picture of William Harvey McDaris as this must certainly be the pic of my great grandfather. Check the high cheekbones!!! I actually have the info on the Pyatt family and can offer that info at a later time when I can get all the info I have organized. I do know that the Joseph Pyatt family (Isabells brother) was listed in the 1870 Mo. census. I find it interesting the Madaris family are recorded in Burke Co and travel eastward as the Cherokee's were moved eastward. The trail of tears occured in 1838-39 and Cherokee Co was formed out of Macon Co in 1839 and the Madaris family is in the 1840 Cherokee Co census. The census of 1860 lists among the children of W. H. MEDARIS (7) as Robert Lafayett (8) born 1854 in NC and Martha (8) born in 1856 in TN and Nancy Eveline (8) born in 1859 in Mo. It then would appear that the family left NC after 1854 and were traveling through TN in 1856 and arrived in MO. before Nancy's birth in 1859. Thanks so much for allowing me to see my Great-Great Grandfather William Harvay McDaris.

COMMENTS= I am descended from Anne Ward Maddray Hazelwood through her second husband Randolph Hazelwood who died 1797 in Warren Co, NC. Anne Hazelwood died in Warren Co, NC in 1811. The will of Randolph Hazelwood names wife, Anne, and daughters Sarah Edwards and Lucy Stallings. Lucy Stallings is my line. Here is the basic information I have on Anne and her first husband:

James Maddray was born 1726, Isle of Wight, VA. He died before 12 Aug 1760 in Granville Co, NC. James married Anne Ward about 1750, Isle of Wight, Virginia. Children of James and Anne Ward Maddray are:

Mary Maddray was born 1752 and died after 30 Mar 1827. Mary married Matthew Davis about 1770.

John Maddray was born 1753. He married Chloe Sainsing, Warren Co, NC.

William Maddray was born 1754. He married Millender Sainsing, Warren Co, NC.

Elizabeth Maddray was born 1756, Granville Co, North Carolina.

Moses Maddray was born 1758, Granville Co, NC. He died before 12 Feb 1778, Bute Co,

The spelling variations I have seen in the Maddray line include Maddrey, Maddra, Maddera, and all of the above with one 'd' instead of two. I don't know if Maddray is a spelling variation of your surname, but I did notice that some of the people Maddray researchers have placed in my Maddray family are also listed in your descendancy charts.

COMMENTS= Am looking for any info on a John Rufus McDaris born about 1850. His son, my grandfather, was Tom Olan McDaris and is listed in the Oklahoma census of 1930 along w/ my father Olan McDaris. Columbus Sharpe (who you mention Mary Medaris living with on the 1870 Union County GA Census) was married to Susannah's sister, Matilda. If you still have the information on Columbus Sharpe & his family, I sure would appreciate knowing more.

Your web site is great & I was thrilled to find more information on the Medaris line. One possible error I noticed was that Mary Medaris & Mollie Medaris were born in the same year. Were they twins or should this be Mary "Mollie" Medaris? I have found that Mary was often called Mollie back then. One again, thanks for any help you can give me with the family of Columbus Sharpe. COMMENTS= My great, great grandfather was Phillip Napier Medearis who married Elizabeth Tisdale in Jones County, Mississippi back in the 1800's. No one knows anything about him, but we do know that he had sisters. He later married May ? Bird who bore him two children- she later died in a fire and the children were sent to live with a Methodist preacher in MS. I do not have my notes with me, but I so remember that there is a handwitten account about Phillip being found in Alabama on a trip by Elizabeth's father, Washington Sherman Tisdale.
