Lake Allatoona
Little River

A big plus to this location is its close proximity to Atlanta, Ga. making it a great place for a check-out run or short notice event. It can be reached in about 30 minutes from Marietta via I75N, I575N, Bells Ferry Rd N. Provided the lake is not down more than 15', the public ramp at Cherokee Mills (on the right before crossing the lake) is a good option. If the lake is down to the point that this ramp is closed, is is generally possible to use the ramp at Little River Marina just across the bridge on the right.

To go up Little River from this area head southeast (don't go under the bridge). At normal lake level the next 4 to 5 miles will be flat and relatively wide water. Eventually the river banks will move in and as you come into sight of the I575 bridge current will become evident. Passage is possible another 1/2 to 3/4 mile and then width and overhanging trees prohibit further passage. Included in this run is an old mill site with a brief section of white water at the dam location.

During winter months or other periods of low water much, if not all of this trip is on lake bottom. The terrain is somewhat diverse and reasonably free of stumps and large rocks. A good day trip with a short drive.
