Tiberius Claudius Nero
or
Tiberius Claudius Nero Germanicus
|
Matt Kreuzer suggested an interesting proposition, the reverse image of Milne 256 is
actually Claudius (note the similarity of names). In support of Matt's position: Nero's year 13 & 14 tetradrachms
were almost exclusively devoted to divinities and "Tiberius" was never deified as opposed to "Claudius" and; Suetonius reported
"that people ran about yelling: 'To the Tiber with Tiberius!'", not much of an endorsement for a
reign that was running out for Nero. But the Alexandrians might have chosen Tiberius for just that reason. More food for thought.
