Doudou Ndiaye Rose is unquestionably the most famous sabar drummer in the world. He and members of his family have not only been recorded on hundreds of Senegalese tapes but have also made their own compact disks and video. He has been recorded on the Melodie and Real World Labels.
Doudou is the father of 38 children, all accomplished West African drummers and dancers. They have toured extensively throughout Europe, Africa, Japan, and the United States.
Doudou Ndiaye Rose was born in Dakar Senegal in 1928 and took up sabar drumming at an early age.
In 1996, Doudou performed at the Opening Ceremonies of the National Black Arts Festival in Atlanta, Georgia.
