When I woke up this morning, The Bearded Guy was gone. After my
shower, I came downstairs, hoping that he was playing the Playstation
and had made coffee. He wasn't...but he DID make coffee. Under the
thermal carafe there was a note, "gone next door to pick grapes."
Our next door neighbor called us last night and asked if we wanted
some grapes. She'd made all the jelly she could, and her daughter had
seen enough grapes for a lifetime, so she wondered if TBG would like
the rest of her grapes for wine. He did.
I'd just poured myself a cup of joe when the dogs started making
"daddy's home" noises. I opened the door to my man carrying a huge tub
of grapes. He hauled 'em in and I asked, "How are you going to get the
juice outta these things?"
He replied, "I thought I'd just freeze them and break down the cell
walls that way."
"You mean you aren't going to stomp them?"
He gave me a look that said I was crazy as a shithouse rat and started
to clean the grapes in the sink. I could see that it was going to take
him most of the day. After a few minutes, I think he saw that too.
I kept reading my newsgroups. After about 10 minutes, he disappeared,
then reappeared with another tub. Then he split the grapes into the
two tubs. "You feel like stomping?" he asked.
Well, I'd hoped that Sr. Jezabel would be my Ethel, but she hadn't
arrived from Ft.Worth yet. I said, "My feet are clean. I just got out
of the shower."
"Get stompin' woman!" he commanded.
So I did.
It was squishy between my toes. The smell was not only grapes, but
green stuff, stems and seeds. It was like mud that pops. It was
fun...and I made a lot of juice. Now it is fermenting and when we get
the wine, there'll be a little Tarla in it. I'm so proud.
