Wedding of
William Edward Lanier & Lucille Riter

 The following poem was written by
the Reverend William Edward Lanier
to his beloved wife, Lucille (Riter) Lanier.
According to all who were privileged to have known him,
he was a wonderful Christian, with a kind
and compassionate disposition.

To Lucille

It is not for me to question
Why God, so good and kind,
My little world should enter-
Thy heart and my heart to bind.

But five short years dear wife,
Since you and I were wed;
Just five years of thy love,
By which my life is fed.

In life's Elesian fields we've wandered
Amidst love's blooming flowers.
We've reveled in their beauty,
And whiled away the hours.

In thy love my soul has found
It's sweetest earthly rest;
As the wandering bird at last
Has built itself a nest.

Again, tonight, dear one,
My heart to thee I give.
I pledge to thee my very best -
For thee and thee alone I live.
