+Walton Harris 1739 - 1809Walton Harris was about 21 years old when he married Rebecca Lanier. She was about 16.
He moved from Brunswick County, Virginia to the celebrated fisheries on the Yadkin in North
Carolina; thence he moved to Wilkes County, Georgia, and settled in that part of the county that
was afterward cut off to form a part of Greene County. He lived near the Skull Shoals on the
Oconee River in Greene County, GA.He was a captain under General Nathaniel Greene. Captain Harris was made a prisoner at the
battle of Augusta. After the war Walton Harris drew lands in Georgia for his services. He was
granted 400 acres of land in Wilkes County in 1785. He became a member of the General Assembly
of Georgia in 1783. At one time in the Georgia legislature (1803), four of the sons of Walton Harris
were serving as representatives of the counties in which they lived.

+Ann (Nancy) Matilda Early 1769-After his marriage to Nancy Early, a cousin of Governor Peter Early, he resided in St. Augustine
Florida until he was assassinated in 1815 under a reward offered for his head by the Spanish
Governor. Upon his death, his widow and young children moved to Jackson, Mississippi.

+Harriet Hines HoltThomas was admitted to the bar at an early age. On May 26, 1811, he married Miss Sarah
Johnson and settled, it is thought, in Pulaski County, GA. He represented that county
in the Legislature. Upon the formation of the "Southern Circuit", he was elected its first
judge; after presiding five or six years, he resigned. His wife died leaving no children.
Afterwards he married a widow, Harriet Hines Holt. He moved to Walton County, GA,
and settled a place called Cowpens. In 1863 he was elected Judge of the Western Circuit.

+Sarah Carter Hunt 1789-1871Jeptha graduated from the University of Georgia with first honors of his class in 1804.
He was a Trustee of the University from 1832 to 1856. He lived at one time in Oglethorpe
County, Georgia; later moved to Athens, Georgia, where he lived and practiced law for many
years. Jeptha accumulated a large fortune and some years before his death he reitred from the
practice of law and bought a handsome country home near Marietta, Georgia, where he lived
until his death in 1856, He was General of the State Militia and was widely know all over the
state. He married on October 11, 1804, Sarah Hunt of Elbert County; she was born June 15, 1789
and died in Madison, Georgia. This couple had 12 children, six sons and six daughters. Every
child lived to adulthood, married and each raised a family.

+Frances Semmes 1813-1863Judge William L. Harris was born in Georgia in 1807, graduated from the University in Athens
in 1825, and being under age was admitted by special legislative enactment to the Bar. He married
Frances Semmes of Georgia and in 1837 moved to Columbus, Mississippi where he served two
terms as Judge of the Northern District and was twice elected Judge of the High Court of Errors and
Appeals.In 1856 he was appointed by the Legislature of Mississippi to cooperate with Judge H. T. Ellett
and Judge W. T. Sharkey to revise and codify the laws of the state. The final document was
known as the "Revised Code of 1857." In 1860 he was tendered by President Buchanan, a
seat on the Supreme Court; this offer was declined.Judges Harris, Ellett, and Pelham moved to Memphis in 1867 and formed a Law
Partnership. Judge Harris died in 1868 and is buried in Elmwood Cemetery with his
wife and a daughter, Mrs. Caroline H. Young, mother of Mrs Margaret Y. Bell.10 Ann Eliza Harris (died in childhood)

10 James Walton Harris 1842-1871James Walton Harris was educated at Southern University at Greensboro, AL. In
1861 he entered the Confederate Army in the 14th regiment, Mississippi Infantry; he
was taken prisoner at Fort Donaldson, Tennessee and sent to Camp Douglas, Chicago,
Illinois. He made his escape from prison, succeeding in reaching his home at Columbus, MS.
Soon after this his regiment was exchanged and sent into the field; he served with them
until the close of the war in 1865. After the war he attended the Pennsylvania Medical
College at Philadelphia, PA where he graduated in medicine in 1868. He located in
St. Louis, Missouri, where he practiced medicine until the time of his death in January, 1871.

+Mary Oliver Banks 1820-1901Jeptha Vining Harris graduated from the University of Georgia in 1836. He was a member of the
Mississippi Legislature in 1855-56. He was commissioned a Second Lt. in the Georgia Militia in 1839.
Jeptha moved to Mississippi about 1840, buying and first living on what is still known as the Harris Place,
near Billups Gate. He later moved to Columbus, Mississippi.He was appointed Brigadier General of the Mississippi Militia at the outbreak of the Civil War and
commanded the 4th Brigade of Mississippi Reserves. He was called into active service in 1863 and
led the Mississippi troops through the campaign, ending with the surrender of Vicksburg. A monument
in the National Park at Vicksburg is erected on the spot where General Harris and his soldiers made
