A few images that show you what damage does not work well with our process and where the risk of cracking is extremely high:
This harsh V-dent this is very likely to crack during the repair. With the inexpensive repair process may be some limitations, but it will be most likely very "usable", especially if we can true it with the tire. In the worst case, if it cracks, we will weld it. If it requires welding there will be a charge of approx. $35 or it can be even more. It depends on the type of wheel, the size of the crack and what type of rim it is (steel, chrome, aluminum and so on...). But don't get scared off, even in the worst case our price is still very reasonable.
A cornered bend where the "dent" starts and ends is likely to crack. Also, a flat wheel front and not much rim lip to use our equipment on makes it very difficult to work the dent back. It depends how picky you are, and how much money a new rim is in comparison to the repair. We listen to our customers and help the most "efficient" way. Sometimes it is simple straightening to 85-95%, sometimes a very complex rebuilding of a wheel to 100%. This is where it becomes a cost issue for you.
A cosmetic damage we don't repair unless you have a "high-end" or expensive rim or rim set that you really want to get fixed. As you can imagine "High-end repairs" take much more time and money. For example, a 20" warped and dented $1,200 Lorinser V12 Mercedes rim was repaired for US$450.00 Yes, expensive, but see, $750.00 SAVINGS in the bank account of the cutomer!
A chromed wheel plus a V-dent combination will often end up with a crack. If you look in detail you can already see a small crack-line and we have not even touched it! A crack indicates that there is a dented section in the rim even though it may not be visible.
Make sure to inspect your wheel for fine hair-line cracks. This rim has a fine crack that you can see.
FYI: Depending how accurate the wheel needs to be for you (90%, 95%, 97%, 99%, or even 100% ... )it will determine the repair cost. Sometimes customers are happy if it just "holds air" again. This can be usually fixed at relatively low cost, accurate repairs on chromed wheels are generally the most expensive repairs. If you can save an nice wheel set due to discontinued wheels that need to be repaired it's sometimes worth to spend the money. At the end YOU must have bottom line savings. If your guts feeling says "It'll save me quite some money" and this all makes sense then go for it!
We weld and repair such wheels. Prices vary according to the actual damage, "usually" anywhere from $65.00 to $95.00 and if there are long cracks or multiple cracks it will be even more.
DON'T FORGET: We SPECIALIZE in INSIDE BENT & OUT-OF-ROUND RIMS, MAINLY CAUSED BY POT-HOLES AND SIMILAR DEFECTS IN THE ROAD. We do not repair cosmetic damage, except "high-end" wheels. Our repair process is targeted to be an INEXPENSIVE solution in comparison to "wheel restoration." Therefore, it can not cure everything. It WORKS BEST on wheels that have a "lip" where the bend is (usually no problem on the inside). We target to bring the out-of-roundness back to approximately 97%-99%. 99.5%-100% perfection would make the repair much more expensive and honestly, even MOST NEW WHEELS are NOT PERFECT! We promise, once we call a wheel "FIXED" it will run SMOOTH on your vehicle and you will never notice that the bend was there.
