I believe this photograph is of Roscoe Turner's Weddell-Williams racer on September 1, 1934 as he arrives at Floyd Bennett Field after flying from Burbank, CA to New York in 10 hours 2 minutes, establishing a new speed record. The administration building with it's orginal control tower can be seen at right.
