J (to C): Did you see Necessary Roughness?
C: I loved that movie.
J: What a great movie. Scott Bakula played a
quarterback in it.
K: Right, I was going to say, he was the
quarterback. I saw the previews for the movie, but I never actually saw it
though.
J: Yeah, it was a great movie. And he's got a
special on CBS. The fine and friendly folks at CBS have graciously provided
Scott Bakula for us today.
C: I was always a big fan of "Quantum
Leap" and I still catch it on the SciFi channel. I think the last one I saw
was the other day when he was a woman.
J: Well, let's talk to him; he's on there now.
Scott!
SCOTT: Good morning.
J: How are you?
SCOTT: Good. I feel like I should be playing a
female quarterback or something.
J: Hey, you'd be all set.
C: Helen Hunt. Remember that movie?
J: Well, she was a kicker, wasn't she?
C: No, she was a quarterback.
SCOTT: (garbled)
K: Now, Scott, my brother happened to be the
biggest fan of Quantum Leap and we have another guy in the studio here... his
name's Opie...and he was a huge fan, and he wanted me to ask you a question.
SCOTT: Yeah?
K: Is there going to be a Quantum Leap reunion
movie?
SCOTT: Uh... I don't know the answer for sure.
Obviously, when a movie like "Charlie's Angels" does well, then
there's hope for it.
K: You never know.
J: They're even talking about a "Good
Times" reunion. You guys gotta jump on board, buddy.
SCOTT: There 'ya go.
K: Now, because I had heard that the show ended on
a terrible note, something along the lines of your character never returned
home.
SCOTT: Yes.
K: Devastating!
J: Right, and that was the whole premise of the
show... you trying to leap back into your own life.
SCOTT: You got it!
K: Aha!
SCOTT: Actually, I should have had you guys along
when I was trying to explain that show. <laughter>
K: So that'd be great, if you could do a reunion
movie. Satisfy all your fans out there.
SCOTT: Yeah, it would be great, except that it
would probably be Tom Cruise and, you know, Jack Nicholson.
K: I don't know about that. Your fans would might
be up-in-arms about that.
SCOTT: hee hee hee
J: So now your latest project is this tv movie this
"Papa's Angels"?
SCOTT: Yes.
J: "A heart-warming holiday movie", is
what they're telling us, Scott.
SCOTT: Well, they're telling it right, I think.
J: OK, a small Rocky Mountain community. Everyone's
not related in this, are they?
SCOTT: ha ha ha
J: This isn't like "Uncle Mom"?
SCOTT: No, ha ha ha
J: Banjo player from "Deliverance"?
SCOTT: No...(hears banjo music in the
background)...oh, you guys!
C: (in hillbilly accent) Scott, you got a real
purty mouth! You can tell me a Christmas story real good!
SCOTT: hee hee
K: It's a fabulous story. I was getting all choked
up just reading the description here.
J: Scott, don't buy that for a minute. This woman
here doesn't get choked up if she witnesses a car accident...unless a dog's
driving!
SCOTT: ha ha ha
K: Because you know what? Your wife gets really ill
in this movie.
SCOTT: Yeah, my wife is played by Cynthia Nixon,
from "Sex in the City", and my mother's played by Eva Marie Saint...
K: Wow!
SCOTT: ...academy-award winner. It's a little bit
reminiscent of "It's a Wonderful Life" kind of a movie, so people like
that kind of a film.
J: That's my all-time favorite movie, as a matter
of fact.
SCOTT: I'm not saying we're in that category, but
it's reminiscent of that...it's got the dad who has four children, but he's
actually just another child in the family, and the mom kind of holds it all
together, and she gets sick. And he tries to... he's kind of like this eternally
optimistic guy..."We'll get you well...we'll do this...we'll do that."
And they eventually lose her, and it's about them all kind of dealing with that.
J: Yeah, a lot of that centers around the following
Christmas, after her death.
SCOTT: Yes.
J: That's gotta be tough. Time for the dad to step
up to the plate.
SCOTT: Well, it's a good movie, and what's also
great about it is that there lots and lots of music in it... I have this little
country band that plays at all the barn dances and things.
K: How cool!
SCOTT: Yeah, so I get to play the banjo.
J: The banjo and the jugs!
SCOTT: No jugs!
J: Oh, dam. I always liked when the Darlin's came
out of the hills... and one guy played the jugs.
SCOTT: You betcha. We all liked that.
K: Well, that sounds great. Sounds like a family
movie.
SCOTT: It is. And it's for the whole family, too.
It's not just for the kids. It's really an adult film.
K: Exactly.
J: That's cool. It's..... (internet transmission is
lost is lost here for 15 seconds)....Sunday night, CBS, at nine o'clock. And
it's called "Papa's Angels". Right?
SCOTT: Yep!
J: And we're looking for a Quantum Leap reunion,
Scott.
SCOTT: Okay! You know, if people watch this movie,
it helps the Quantum Leap reunion.
J: Alright, we'll tell everybody that.
SCOTT: Ha ha
J: Alright, see 'ya later, Scott.
SCOTT: Thanks a lot.
J: Thanks a lot.
SCOTT: Bye.
