Installing a blank EEPROM where no EPROM programmer is available **************************************************************** The component side of EPIC must be accessible in the PC with the power on. This can be done by removing as many cards as possible (network cards, sound cards, etc) to allow room to move the jumpers and remove and install the EPROM and EEPROM. The EPIC card should be removed and practice removing the EPROM and inserting the EEPROM easily. A plastic knife is good for this job. Be sure you are prying between the socket and EPROM and NOT between the printed circuit board and the socket!!! DUMPEPIC MUST be Version 13 beta 12 or greater to work with this procedure. 1. Power up with a working EPROM. 2. Run DUMPEPIC. DUMPEPIC should find the card and report the version number. 3. READIMAGE EEPROM. You will get a message "This will "Kill" EPIC…… Read current image from EPIC(Y/N) answer "Y" This will put EPIC in a mode where DUMPEPIC can write to the EEPROM 4. Remove the EPROM from the socket using the plastic knife or some non-metallic thin object. 5. Move Jumper JP2 (in front of notched of E/EEPROM socket) from EPROM to EEPROM. 6. Remove Jumper JP1. 7. Install EEPROM into socket trying to get the Ground pin 14 (this will be the pin closest to U18 and away from notch end) in first. 8. Place jumper removed in step 6 across EEWR jumper. This is JP10 at the top edge of the EPIC card. This is the same jumper as JP1 WR, but easier to access. On older cards with no JP10 you can run a pair of wire to the two pins JP1-WR and wire to a switch. EPIC may not boot with this jumper on. 9. READIMAGE .BIN example- READIMAGE A:FX118D2P.BIN This will read the EPROM file from the A: drive disk. You will get message- "Opening …." "Reading… " At the "Enter Checksum…" enter the Checksum for the file. This number is next to the download on the web site or can be obtained from us. 10. WRITEEEPROM Answer "Y" to all questions. Checksums should "match" if all goes well. 11. Remove short from EEWR jumper by moving it to 1 pin of the jumper. 12. Power down. 13. Power up. 14. Run DUMPEPIC and if all is OK EPIC should be found and the version number shown.
