MindSpring Releases New Software Interface
ATLANTA (January 19, 1998) - MindSpring Enterprises, Inc. today announced
the release of its new user interface software, MindSpring version 3.0. The
software is available as a free download to MindSpring subscribers from the
company's Web site <http://www.mindspring.com/>.
"From MindSpring's inception, we have created intuitive software to help
our members to get on the Internet," said Ed Douglas, MindSpring's director
of consumer product development. "In designing Version 3.0, we asked our
members how we could make their Internet experience simpler and more
enjoyable. I am pleased to say Version 3.0 delivers their wish list and
more. The MindSpring user interface is the simplest available, plus it
incorporates content from some of the Internet's leading sources."
MindSpring version 3.0 is a plug-in for Windows 95, which can be used with
either Microsoft Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator. The interface,
which replaces MindSpring's previous 'front end' software, appears as an
HTML (hypertext markup language) document. The page allows the user to
connect to the MindSpring service, configure the account, launch
applications like e-mail, access MindSpring's home page, and select content
from several sources, including MSNBC, CNN, ZDNet, The Motley Fool, ESPN
SportsZone, and Mr. Showbiz. Using SoftCast technology from NetSurfer,
Inc., MindSpring subscribers using version 3.0 will be able to
automatically update their software.
MindSpring expects to release a Macintosh version of the software during
the second quarter.
