MindSpring Introduces LAN on Demand
Cost Effective High-Speed Internet Connectivity for Small Businesses
ATLANTA (October 6, 1998) - MindSpring Enterprises, Inc. (NASDAQ:MSPG) has introduced LAN on Demand, the newest entry in the company's line of services for small businesses. LAN on Demand allows a small business to connect all of its computers to the Internet with a single ISDN line. Set-up and maintenance are simple and backed by MindSpring's top-notch Tech Support team. LAN on Demand is ideal for businesses that need to provide email and web browsing to their employees but don't want the expense of a dedicated connection.
MindSpring LAN on Demand utilizes an ISDN line and an ISDN Router, both reasonably priced, to provide Internet connectivity to an entire small office network. MindSpring recommends and provides technical support for two routers, the Toshiba Compact Router 600 and the Arescom Apex 1100.
The router automatically connects to MindSpring when any Internet application (such as a web browser, mail client or newsreader) on the network makes a request for information from the Internet. The router stays connected as long as there is activity and disconnects when activity stops. Because of the speed of ISDN, the router can connect in a matter of seconds. Because the connection process is invisible, it is like having a dedicated connection without the expense.
MindSpring's LAN on Demand service costs $99 per month and includes 160 hannel-hours of
connectivity, 10 e-mail accounts, 5 MB of server storage for a Web site, 3 complete
MindSpring Internet Starter Kits, full access to the Internet (including MindSpring's
Usenet service), and MindSpring's acclaimed, always available technical support. There is
a one time start-up fee of $100. Additional channel-hours are billed at $0.75 an hour. It
is important to note that these charges do not include the monthly charge the telephone
company will assess for the ISDN line.
LAN on Demand is available almost everywhere that MindSpring offers ISDN access. Contact a MindSpring sales representative at 1-888-MSPRING (1-888-677-7464) to find out if LAN on Demand is available in a specific area.
