MindSpring Acquires Planet Earth Subscribers

ATLANTA (October 7, 1998) - MindSpring Enterprises, Inc. (Nasdaq: MSPG) today announced it has purchased the consumer dial-up Internet subscribers of Planet Earth Communications of Staten Island, New York. MindSpring is a national Internet service provider. Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed. This is the fourteenth subscriber acquisition MindSpring has announced this year.

"MindSpring and its employees work hard to provide our members with a great Internet experience," said David Steed, acquisition specialist. "We are certain that Planet Earth's subscribers will be pleased with our software, service and support."

In transitioning to MindSpring's award-winning service, each Planet Earth subscriber will receive the MindSpring Starter Kit, which includes MindSpring's user access interface and a complete suite of Internet software for Windows 95, Windows 3.x, or Macintosh; a comprehensive User's Guide; and access to MindSpring's 24-hour toll-free technical support service. Transition of the Planet Earth subscribers should be complete within 60 days.
