MindSpring Wins PC Computing 1998 MVP Award
-- Takes Top Honors In National Internet Service Provider Category --
ATLANTA (November 16, 1998) - MindSpring Enterprises, Inc. (NASDAQ:MSPG) has won the prestigious PC Computing 1998 Most Valuable Product (MVP) Award as the Best National Internet Service Provider (ISP) of the year, bestowed by PC Computing, the Ziff-Davis (NYSE:ZD) magazine for technology-focused business professionals.
MindSpring and other MVP Award winners were honored at PC Computing's 10th annual MVP Awards ceremony, held last night at a gala ceremony at Studio 54 in the MGM Grand Hotel in Las Vegas. The MVP Awards ceremony has long been considered the unofficial kick-off for the COMDEX/Fall technology industry trade show, which opened officially today.
PC Computing's editors cited MindSpring's fast, reliable and available connections; customer support that is the envy of the industry; and an easy-to-install software package as the reasons for MindSpring's selection as 1998's ISP of the year.
MindSpring has also received PC World's "1998 World Class Award for Best ISP" (July 1998) and "1998 Best ISP Start Page" from FamilyPC (July 1998). MindSpring has also earned CNET: The Computer Network's "Buy It" recommendation as the national ISP providing the best value, a "Best Buy" recommendation from Smart Money Interactive (June 1998) and Home Office Computing's "Best Buy" for Web Hosting (April 1998).
"We are pleased and proud that MindSpring has won the 1998 MVP Award as this year's best Internet Service Provider from PC Computing," said Charles Brewer, MindSpring's founder and chief executive officer. "Everyone at MindSpring works very hard to impress our customers every day. Because we're usually thought of as a consumer ISP, it's a real badge of honor that PC Computing's editors are recommending us to business professionals, after their thorough, comparative review of our many competitors."
"MindSpring has been judged the best in its class by our tough panel of editors, who are uncompromising technology experts," said PC Computing editor, Wendy Taylor. "MindSpring is the Internet Service provider of choice for business technology buyers, because it gives business professionals a strategic, competitive advantage in the workplace," Taylor continued.
The 1998 MVP awards span ninety-six product categories, making the MVP Award winner roster an invaluable buyer's guide. To select MindSpring and the other 1998 MVP Award winners, PC Computing's editors conducted an exhaustive review of thousands of Internet, digital office, software and hardware products, evaluating them for usability, performance, technology, innovation and value. Such a rigorous review process distinguishes the MVP Award from other publications' "best of the year" product awards, many of which are based on reader polls, popular opinion or widespread appeal.
Products in all categories that shipped between October 1, 1997 and
September 30, 1998 were eligible for consideration by PC Computing's
editors for the 1998 MVP Awards. Winners will be featured in the
much-anticipated January 1999 print issue of PC Computing, which many of
the publication's 1,000,000 readers use as a product buying guide and
reference tool. A complete list of 1998 MVP Award winners is available
