Celebrex

 

Celebrex is classified as a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug, generic name: celecoxib.  Indications for Celebrex are in the treatment of osteoarthritis and adult rheumatoid arthritis.  Contraindications to taking Celebrex include aspirin or sulfonamide allergy, also pregnancy.  Precautions include, but are not limited to, renal disease, liver disease, fluid retention, heart failure, hypertension, asthma, motor or GI ulcer bleed, dehydration, debilitated, frail, elderly, labor and delivery, pregnancy, nursing mothers.

It is important to note that Celebrex should not be used with any other anti-inflammatory medication without consulting your personal physician. 

 

It should also certainly be noted that Celebrex should not be taken if you are pregnant or trying to become pregnant.

The possible side effects of Celebrex include nausea, tarry stools, diarrhea, and stomach irritation.  I understand the possible side effects  (yes or no)

 

Potential interactions with drugs that inhibit CYPE2C9, meaning Fluconazole, or are metabolized by CYPE2D6.  Further interactions include antagonizer, increased risk of renal failure, ace inhibitors, and diuretics.  There is an increased risk of GI bleed with aspirin and corticosteroids, and may possibly potentiate the effects of Lithium.

Addendum to some of the sites regarding dosages:

 

There are two forms of Celebrex:  100 mg or 200 mg.  The 100 mg capsules are to be taken two times per day.  Prescriptions can be called in, in the amounts of: 60 – one twice per day with two refills which would be a full three month’s supply, or can be called in for a full 180 one-time prescription for three months, one twice per day.  The 200 mg capsules to be taken once per day.  It can be called in, in amounts of 30 with two refills, one per day, or in the amount of 90, a full three month’s supply, either way.
