Students are exposed to four broad conceptual themes: Exploring Data: Observing patterns and departures from patterns Planning a Study: Deciding what and how to measure Anticipating Patterns: Producing models using probability theory and simulation Statistical Inference: Confirming models This semester, students will complete the second two of these themes and will prepare for the AP exam. There is also a cumulative final post-exam project. The textbook used for the class is The Practice of Statistics by Yates, Moore, and McCabe (replacement cost: $59.80). Chapters 1-7 in the text will be covered during this semester. Students who successfully complete both semesters of the course are expected to take the advanced placement exam given in May. They may receive credit, advanced placement, or both for a one- semester introductory college statistics course. Technology will be used extensively throughout the course. Students are encouraged to provide their own graphing calculator, preferably the TI-83+ or TI-84+. An electronic discussion group for students is available. Students should contact the teacher concerning recovery opportunities. Teachers are expected to establish a reasonable time period for recovery work to be completed during the semester. All recovery work must be directly related to course objectives and must be completed 10 school days prior to the end of the semester. Additional Policies There will be a 10% reduction in the grade of any assignment missed due to an unexcused absence. Additional help from the teacher is available outside of the normal class period upon student request. I am here every morning at 7:30am for make ups and extra help. I cannot stay past 4:00 pm in the afternoons. Grading Policies Daily Work 10% Quizzes 10% Unit Tests 50% Final Exam 20% Final Project 10% A.P. Statistics Teacher Expections High Excellent attendance is essential for success in mathematics. Students are expected to bring materials each day to include pencil, paper, text, and calculator. All work missed is to be made up at a time outside of the assigned class period. Students who miss class due to field trips, TAG seminars, athletic events, and other school activities are expected to obtain their assignments before leaving for the activity and to return with the assignment completed. Missed tests and quizzes must be made up within one week. Students are expected to show respect for themselves, for the other members of the class, and for the teacher. All Roswell High School policies as outlined in the student agenda book will be adhered to at all times. This story can fit 150-200 words.
