[Article from MM2
p85 (1981)]
Unfortunately most of the five FILAS BRASILEIRO who were exported from Brazil to Germany in 1979 and 1980 were unsatisfactory The brindle male from ABM DE SOROCABA kennel had to be put to sleep because of serious knee deformations. On both his father's and his mother's side he had dogs in his pedigree who are mentioned in the Brazilian list of Fila-bastards (see page 30 of MM 1/81). His owner's comment to this was: "In the meanwhile I know that the problem of mixed breeding the Fila in Brazil is more than a conflict between several clubs, because I have got a Mastiff!" The Fila bitch exported by the EMBIREMA kennel has hip diplacements of the worst type and the fawn bitch imported from the MONTE SANTO kennel is the daughter of a bitch mentioned in the Brazilian bastard list, too. At least the male who was exported, being a Fila from the Brazilian BELO
CRUZEIRO kennel is black. According to the "father of the breed", Dr. Paulo Santos Cruz and his school, This color has never been seen in pure Filas. The dog from the BELO CRUZERIO kennel has some ancestors from the KIRONGOZI kennel in his pedigree, which has been publicly accused in Brazil of mixed breeding the Fila with Mastino Napoletano and Great Danes. The owner of both dogs mentioned was urged by publisher of MM not to breed from these imports. Conclusion: Better information and more competent procurement are necessary when importing Filas Brasileiro from Brasil.
Francisco PELTIER DE QUEIROZ Brazilian Fila-expert and co-founder of the CAFIB, who has publicized the mixed breeding in his country in an extensive campaign, was invited to give a comment to the actual situation of the Fila Brasileiro in Rio's broadcasting service GUANABARA. Together with him during the live program of 1 1/2 hour's duration on the 15th of June was CAFIB's President, Mr. Ayrton Campbell. The main subject of their report was the dangerous way in which the breeders of the Fila bastards are intending to change the true type of this ancient Brazilian breed Moreover the ambitions of CAFIB and its practical work for the breed were pointed out, e. g. to give all pure Filas special certificates even to those farm dogs, who haven't got a pedigree yet.
