James Randi --- Wizard ((no email))

It's been brought to my attention that Scholastic Magazine, which is
distributed to schools and to children all over the U.S.A. have claimed, in
their November 2nd issue, that "scholars" and "experts" are "certain" and
"agree" that Nostradamus predicted the future. In the same issue, an
article titled "Real-Life Haunted Houses" tells the story of the Amityville
Horror as though it were true. I cannot believe that the authors and the
editor did not know the facts about these matters. It's certainly well
known that author Jay Anson and the owners of the Amityville house admitted
their hoax long ago. For Scholastic magazine to present these myths as
facts, is shameful. We cannot hope to produce a generation of kids who can
think logically, if they're fed this claptrap by an "educational" magazine
that is approved by the boards of education in our schools.

If you care about this scandal, please write to the Editor in Chief, Jean
Feiwel, at Scholastic Inc., 555 Broadway, New York, NY 10012.

While you're at it, you might wish to send a copy of your letter to a
lady who is gathering information about the psychic hogwash being
distributed by e-mail and on TV. She's Victoria Dindwall, Editor of
"Psychic Directions," P.O. Box 3776, Yale Station, New Haven, CT
06520, or via email at She seems rather
undecided about such matters, and your letter just might turn her in
the right direction. Thanks!

James Randi.
