LIVING THE GITA IN NEW YORK CITY

with Swami Nikhilanand

The Gita is the most widely read of all Sanskrit scriptures of India. It has been translated into hundreds of languages, and inspired spiritual seekers in every corner of this world. The reasons for its popularity are its small size (700 verses), the elegance and precision of its philosophical descriptions, and the [act that those who study the Gita find teachings that relate directly to their lives.

In 2007, Swami explained the central theme of the first six chapters of the I Gita, covering the eternity of the soul; I the nature of the mind; the search for | happiness; how God descends into this world; and how to meditate.

In 2008 we move on in the Gita. Each week Swami Nikhilanand reveals the true meaning behind a chapter clarifying common misconceptions, and applying the teachings to our everyday life. Each session includes a chance for question and answer and an experience of chanting meditation.

The next series covers chapters 7 through 11, exploring:

Swami Nikhilanand

studied the wisdom of the Gita from his Spiritual Master, Jagadguru Shree Kripalu Ji Maharaj in India. His home is Barsana Dham ashram near Austin, Texas.

From an early age he was drawn to the spiritual teachings of India. After years of study, renunciation and meditation, he was given the monastic order of sanyas, and with his teacher's blessing he offers talks and workshops throughout the US.
