HAZARD & THE DENYING PRINCIPLE; EXPLORING THE UNKNOWN
with Tom Eisele
Six Tuesdays:
Mar 4, 11, 18, 25 and Apr 1, 8, 2008, 7:30-9:30 pm
Human Nature is constantly seeking safety, security, and stability, yet every day life presents us with new circumstances and potential uncertainties. This dance between the Affirming and Denying Principles of life is known as "Hazard" and represents the eternal evolutionary cycle that permits nothing in life to stand still or remain the same.
With the challenge of Hazard and its unknown consequences waiting at nearly every turn, what is the purpose of pursuing a Spiritual Path? Does Spiritual Practice represent the search for God or is it the process of going beyond the fear of what we don't know in order to choose to love all things unconditionally in the manner of God?
This class explores how the concept of "The Denying Principle" is expressed in various Spiritual Traditions, as well as how Hazard represents a stimulus for all meaningful action. Drawing freely from The Fourth Way Teachings, Qabalah, Thelema, Taoism, The Yggdrasil Mythology, and Hinduism, we will analyze how the potential for illumination within Hazard may be realized if one is willing to make the effort to open the mind like a camera aperture to receive more light in the shadows.
"If Man sees hazard as a misfortune rather than an opportunity, he will seek to close the door to freedom rather than keep it open."- J. G. Bennett
