POCKET PRACTICES
Spiritual Practice In Real Life
Revs. Allan Lokos and Susanna Weiss,
Interfaith Ministers
January 12, 1:00-5:00 pm
If you find yourself less and less enamored with philosophies and theories about how to live a meaningful life, and more interested in practices that address living everyday life, you will want to spend an afternoon with Revs. Allan Lokos and Susanna Weiss. In real life there is heavy traffic when we're late, the office is insane, relationships are stressed, viruses take up residence in our bodies, and loved ones get sick and die. Lofty ideals rarely come to mind when we're overwrought, stressed, or victimized. Often we cause ourselves and those around us suffering when instead, we can learn to be a source of joy and compassion, even in the most challenging circumstances.
When life comes at us like a freight train, we need to respond quickly, yet effectively. We need "Pocket Practices"- effective responses that we can call upon instinctively when pressure builds. Not magic or secret formulas, these are common sense and great spiritual teachings distilled in concentrated doses - the wisdom of the ages honed for use in the modern world.
In this insightful, experiential workshop, two of the country's most prominent, non-dogmatic spiritual leaders share the "Pocket Practices" they have created for dealing with life's most stressful situations, including:
- Coping with stress and unfair treatment at work, via identifying and quickly disarming "triggers" that upset you in others' behavior. Learn actions and phrases that can quickly help you in these stressful situations! Practice them and integrate them into your daily life.
- Meeting the challenges of relationships with family, partners and friends by exploring our expectations and history and using that knowledge to improve our connections with others.
- Learning quick, easy tools to help with poor sleep, stress-related eating and other responses to a harried, world.
- Participating in exercises in dealing with anger - our own and others.
- Focusing on simple skills to improve our ability to communicate.
Tuition: $55; $45 if REGISTERED by January 5th.
