The Mystic heart: Poetry, prayers and practices of the Sufi Tradition
With Sharifa Felicia Norton and Muinuddin Charles Smith
Saturday, March 8, 1:00-5:00 pm
Love all and hate none.
Mere talk of peace will avail you naught.
Mere talk of God and religion will not take you far.
Bring out all of the latent powers of your being
Be surcharged with peace and joy,
Be a blazing fire of Truth, be a beauteous blossom of love,
And be a soothing balm of peace.
Muinuddin Chishti, 13th Century Sufi of India
This day of retreat will provide deep immersion into the heart of the Sufi tradition, a path of direct "dhawq" or tasting, of ecstatic communion with the source of Being and the sacredness of life. Through stories, poetry, teaching, chants and meditation, journey beyond the veils that separate us from the heart of wisdom!
The Sufi sees all of life as a homecoming, a return to our natural state of being, to finding ease and blessing with ourselves and our lives. A path rooted in love, and culminating in service to this life.
We will use poetry and stories of great Sufi poets, including Hafiz, Rumi, Fariduddin Attar (including "The Conference of the Birds", illustrating the struggles and realizations of the spiritual path), and the tales of Hazrat Inayat Khan to open the way to deep inner practice -- bringing forth a radical shift in our vision and a greater scope for fruitfulness in our everyday life.
Some of the essential themes of this retreat will be:
- Purification and Cultivation of the Heart and Mind
- Our kinship with and sacred connection with all of Life
- The practice of dhikr, or remembrance (which will be shared as a group)
- The practice of reading all of life as a sacred manuscript
- Bringing the fruits of spiritual realization into everyday life
Tuition: $55. $45 if REGISTERED by March 1st.
(Followed by a performance of The Master and the Essenes.Attendees at The Mystic Heart receive a $10 discount for this fascinating Sacred Drama.)
