<> Shirley Rabb Winston left the Earth plane on January 24, 2002 in her home. She was one of the"great ladies" of A.R.E., who worked closely with Hugh Lynn Cayce and was a frequent lecturer at Headquarters and in N.Y.C. during the era when Hugh Lynn was Executive Director. Mrs. Winston wrote Music as the Bridge, which discusses music and the arts, and their roles in transforming attitudes and emotions.
Born in Alabama, Mrs. Winston was a founding member of the National Society of Arts and Letters and Associate Professor of music at the University of North Carolina. Her career as a professional opera singer took her to Carnegie Hall, the Chicago Lyric Opera Company where she sang major roles, and to Broadway. Richard Rogers reportedly wrote the song "Climb Every Mountain" for her. Mrs. Winston also helped to revive the N.Y.C. chapter of A.R.E. in the '80's, when she was our speaker for the first program the N.Y.C. group presented after a period of years when most A.R.E. activity had "petered out" in New York. We offer thanks for Mrs. Winston's life and prayers for her soul's continued joyful adventures! |
<> On March 27th, Jess Stearn, author of The Sleeping Prophet and other books on the life and work of Edgar Cayce died at age 87 after being in poor health for some months. The Sleeping Prophet made best seller lists in the late 1960's, introducing thousands of people to the work of Edgar Cayce. A.R.E. HQ expects to have a celebration of Mr. Stearn's life in conjunction with one of the conferences at Virginia Beach later this year. We request prayers for his peaceful transition and give thanks also for his contribution to this Work.
<> One of our wonderful N.Y.C. volunteers, Luci Antoinette, recently moved back to her home state, Minnesota. Luci served as a Receptionist at the Center, and also donated her services at the last A.R.E. picnic, creating "body art," for children and daring adults. We miss Luci, but are grateful for her service. Our prayers go with her to the Heartland! <> Barbara Costantino, one of our former Center volunteers has written us from her new home in Montana. She writes: "We are settling down & adjusting to the new way of life... It's so different from N.Y. We are surrounded by the snow-capped mountains, pine trees, rivers & animals. It's truly God's country. Hope all is well in the Center." ...Yes, we suppose Montana IS a lot different from New York City!.. Love and blessings, Barbara! |
