Born:
October 21
Birthplace:
Florence, South Carolina. Moved to Manhattan when she was 8 years old and also resided in Brooklyn
Graduate of:
Fashion Institute of Technology; AS in Fashion Design
Occupation:
Professional Pattern Maker in all Ready-to-Wear classifications, including Children's Wear.

Helen Lee's introduction to the A.R.E. started through an unexpected venue; she listened to a radio program that caught her attention. "I heard Lynne Miceli speak on WBAI, and since I worked in the garment district, where the A.R.E. was located, I went to their offices to learn more about the organization. Then I read the book, Miere Is A River, and that really tapped into the spiritual path which I had already developed as a spiritual healer. From that time I have made the A.R.E. an integral part of my spiritual path."

Helen's spirituality runs deep and her innermost thoughts reveal her life's mission, "I was born into this life for a purpose and that my soul entered this world with a mission to help people." Helen, a dedicated spiritual healer, says, "I help people in many different ways not only through spiritual healing, but also through the guidance that I give people at the A.R.E. center, as well as everyday encounters with individuals or people who seek healing through my web site."

In tandem with Helen's spiritual healing work she was drawn to investigate the A.R.E. further, "The A.R.E. and what it symbolized made me realize that I wanted to know more about Edgar Cayce. So I decided to take a one-day trip to Virginia Beach. I found that the energy in Virginia Beach was wonderful, electrifying. I knew from what I learned about Cayce that the A.R.E. had awakened something in me that was already there. I therefore wanted to make the A.R.E. part of my life's work as a spiritual healer."

She also cites a most unusual occurrence in Virginia Beach and feels certain that the mysterious man she encountered was Edgar Cayce himself. Helen recalls, "I had gone into the meditation garden and reflected on how I would like to connect with Edgar Cayce, and I feel that my request was answered. I was waiting for a cab outside the A.R.E. building to go to the airport, when a man appeared and briefly spoke to me. Then he walked down the steps and seemingly disappeared into the ground. I just felt that he was a spiritual person and that Edgar Cayce had made himself known to me."

Helen exudes the kind of enthusiasm that is effused with the spiritually driven joy in having made a meaningful connection with the A.R.E community in New York. That was six years ago and since then she has become an important participant in the A.R.E. and its diversified programs. Most significant she was a spiritual healing practitioner at the A.R.E. Annual Picnic.

"I've also been part of a Bible study group for three years and I've learned a lot from this experience," Helen reports. "I really enjoy being a receptionist on Sundays. Meeting and greeting people is the highlight of my week and it brings me in contact with so many interesting people."

Perhaps, dear readers, you will remember the Quilt Workshop, which was an ongoing project for several sessions. Helen, one of the facilitators, recalls, "Many people were involved and they made prayer squares from scraps of material and found objects, which were linked together in a panorama of symbolic messages. It was a very hands-on process, which brought people together in a common bond of friendship and creativity." Part of the quilt is now on display in the waiting area in the Center's therapy wing.

Thank you Helen for your continued support and participation in the A.R.E.   (back to first article)
