This postcard of the Cristobal Coaling Station has cranes which resemble those used today to load modern container ships. The solution to each problem created opportunities for remarkable innovation and technological advances.

In this detail from the picture above you can see the pride and determination in the faces of my grandfather (left) and his men. David McCullough's book, "The Path Between the Seas," highlights the pride that all men felt. That they gave their very best to this monumental project, is a result of the enlightened management of COL Goethals.
