WHO: We are a group of people who meet regularly to promote the study of lace and the preservation of lace making skills. 2001 marks our 20th year as a chartered chapter of I.O.L.I. WHAT: At our meetings some members will be making lace employing various techniques, some will be studying different types of lace, and some will be sharing completed projects or examples of antique laces. WHY: Most members are interested in a number of arts and join to learn more about lace making in particular. Through our chapter and membership in the national organization, we can preserve these techniques, make them known to others, and pass along these skills. HOW: Some lace making skills are shared and passed on informally at the meetings one-on-one with a member teaching a newcomer. Members in the national organization, I.O.L.I., receive The Bulletin quarterly, which contains articles, patterns and information. National conventions are held yearly and offer classes in various techniques. Members often attend other local chapter lace days and workshops. The chapter occasionally hosts mini workshops or hosts a teacher for a day of specific study. The Atlanta Chapter has chosen the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit of Kennestone Hospital as our service project. Members knit, crochet, smock, and use other techniques to make many different items to donate to these premature babies. |
