The road north
October 2003
Went to visit my sister in NYC. No, I'm not quite clear on when the trip turned into a Chevy Chase movie, by which I mean the sucky majority of them, not Fletch and, um, that one with Goldie Hawn, and come to think of it that one kind of sucked, too, despite the fact that Charles Grodin is always funny.
These pictures are from the drive from Atlanta to NYC, which I expected to take a day to a day and a half of liesurely driving, but took two full days. The traffic jam hellhounds had my scent, and stalked me relentlessly through the piedmont.
I took the two-lane highway for a while, because I didn't want to arrive in NYC while Liz was still at work. As it turned out, I needn't have worried about that. The Motel Baldwin pics are from US 1 in north-central Virginia.
My overall travel notes are a couple of pages ahead.

The Big Peach water tower in Gaffney, South Carolina. It used to be ridiculed as the "Big Butt," so they added a leaf. It helps a little.
I-85 in Charlotte, North Carolina. Parking lot. Three hours. Losing my respect for the sanctity of human life.
