Waltonschauung

Prologue
Dec. 28-30, 2002
Los Angeles, California, USA

This is Los Angeles International Airport. I only took the one picture in almost 36 hours in LA, which is the the lowest ratio I will have on this trip.

There was a 12-hour layover in the original schedule, and then equimpent failure led to another 21-hour delay. I saw more of LAX Terminal 2 then I ever wanted to. If you've ever flown into or out of the Tom Bradley International Terminal, consider yourself lucky; it's the Taj Mahal compared to the remote colonial outpost that is Terminal 2.

Unfortunately, if you're in Terminal 2 and want a smoke -- if, say, they've just announced the third flight delay of the morning -- you have to pass through baggage screening again. And since the FAA has banned baggage lockers, there's no way to leave the terminal without carrying everything along.

But enough about that. A mere 23 hours behind schedule, I arrived in Bangkok ...

LAX (spit!)

Next: Day 1

Disclamers:
  • This is not the definitive work on Thai culture. I have a total of nine days, for Pete's sake, and I'm writing this as I go. This is just a few observations.
  • If you're breathlessly awaiting descriptions of the fleshpots of Pattaya and Patpong, look elsewhere.
  • I'm getting stuff down quickly, so this is quick and dirty. It will eventually have stylesheets and larger images and all that good stuff. You may find some spots I left blank and will fill in later. Learn to live with it.
