1-31-99 - Montrose MX

This was my first race since 1993. I had been practicing quite a bit, but it is much different riding at race speeds. My goal for today, was to benchmark where I stand. Starts are a problem, and first turn action is a little tough at first. Montrose is my old stomping grounds, so I pick up the lines quickly. The track is basically the same as it was 7 years ago when I last raced here, I could ride it my sleep. Each Moto, I seemed to gain back my rhythem and timing. By the end of the day, I could hang with our front runners in the +30A. I passed the 2nd place guy (Chris Wagner), but lost the position back. Winner Vann Gibson was only a few seconds ahead at the end. I was pleased with my first outing in almost 7 years!
