the Barber & Lacey families of Kirkman, Iowa...
The home of John Kneisley Barber & family
... is located just over two and a half miles east of Kirkman, Douglas Township, Iowa, at the intersection of the F32 and the M47, at the West edge of Polk Township.

John K. Barber and extended family first settled in Iowa near Audubon, and later acquired this farm from T.J. Wyland, an early pioneer of Shelby County and another of our ancestors.

only the barn remains of what was once a beautiful farm yard.

John K. Barber and extended family first settled in Iowa near Audubon, and later acquired this farm from Jonathan Wyland, an early pioneer of Shelby County and another of our ancestors.

The house was situated atop a knoll, which must have provided a superb 360 degree view of the surrounding countryside.  Only the barn remains on the property, and even it is barely intact.

After retirement, John K. and Sarah Harter Barber lived in Kirkman, at 204 State Street.  Their home has since been torn down, replaced by a modern ranch-style home.
