Agreeable to a Didamous petition to us directed from the Honourable the Juges of the Superior Cort of Law and Equity for the District of Salisbury State of North Carolina we have caused to come before us David RUSSELL Esq'r and being duly sworn on the Wholy Evalingalist of almighty God in a certain matter of controversey now depending in s'd Court of Equity for the District of Salisbury in State of No Carolina, wheras Jonathan HANES is next friend to the hires of William RIDGE Deceased plaintiff and William T. LEWIS & Wm COOK and others Defendant with that on the twentyeth of march one thousand seven hundred and ninety that Stage COOK came before him this deponant & Colo. Joseph HARDIN who was acting Justice of s'd county of Green and proved a Bill of sale given by Wm RIDGE to Wm T LEWIS for two Negrow girles as follows

Know all men by these presence that I Wm RIDGE of the County of Surry & State of No Carolina for & in the consideration of the sum of one hundred & twenty pounds to me in hand paid by Wm T. LEWIS of the County & State before mentioned at and before the sealing & delivering of these presents the receipt whereof I do acknowledge that I have bargained & sold confirmed & delivered and do by these present bargain & sel-- confirm and deliver Two Negrows by name SALL & NAN of a Milattrish Cumplection unto the s'd Wm T. LEWIS. SALL about thirteen years old and NAN about eleven year old for and in consideration of the above sum of one hundred and twenty pounds paid to me by s'd Wm T. LEWIS and further for s'd Wm T. LEWIS to have & to hold all and singular the s'd Negroes and every of them by the s'd presents bargained adn sold granted & confirmed unto the only propper use & behalf of him the s'd Wm T. LEWIS his Executors Administrators or assigns for ever & the s'd Wm RIDGE for my Selfe my Executors & Administrators all & singular the s'd Negrows I will warrant & for ever defend unto the s'd Wm T. LEWIS his Executors administrators & assigns against me the s'd Wm RIDGE my Executors administrators & assigns and against all and every other purson or pursons whatsoever. in witnes whereof I have hearunto set my Hand and affixed my seal this 5th Day of May 1780 sign'd seal'd and delivered in the presence of & the word seal'd was interlined before signed & acknowledged
