"The joint and several answer of John PIPES and William Nicholas COOK of Surry County to the bill of complaint of William RIDGE, Thomas RIDGE, Mary RIDGE, Elizabeth RIDGE, Sythe RIDGE, and Winefred RIDGE all of Surry County and all infants under the age of twenty one years by their next friend and guardian Jonathan Hayns Exhibited against them

These defendants reserving to themselves all benefit of exception to the many fold errors and insufficiencies in the complainants said bill of complaint contains for answer thereto or to so much thereof as theses defendants are advised as material for them to make answer unto. They answer and say they do admit that they became security for Nathan ALLEN jointly & severally with William Terrel LEWIS Mason COMBS Silvanus PIPES Zenos BALDWIN and ISHAM THOMASON to the Justices of the County Court of Surry for the guardianship of the before mentioned orphans of William Ridge deceased and to any of the other charges in the bill. These defendants know nothing of their own knowlege and these defendants deny all combination of the intent in the bill charged without that, that & and humbly humbly pray to be dismissed hence with their reasonable costs &c.

The several defendants to the within Bill to wit John PIPES and William Nicholas COOK maketh oath that such of the facts as are set forth in the foregoing answer to be of their own knowledge are true and all others therein not of their own knowledge they beleive to be true.
