Concurrent to the Apollo 11 landing on the moon ..... the City of Fullerton, CA named three (3) interconnecting city parks (Grissom, White and Chaffee) in honor of the Apollo One crew. Gus Grissom's wife and son Scott attended the formal dedication ceremony in Fullerton as honored guests of the city.
Fullerton is rich in Apollo and the Shuttle programs. Resident Dale Myers was Rockwell International's Apollo Program Manager . Dale was recruited by the NASA in 1972 to become the NASA Deputy Director, Washington Headquarters. Many, many NASA and Rockwell aerospace executives lived in Fullerton. Fullerton is approximately 25 miles from Downey, CA where the Apollo Spacecraft was conceived, designed, fabricated and tested prior to shipping the completed spacecraft to the Cape. All of the Apollo astronauts have visited Fullerton.
Please note there is no Apollo One specific material on the Fullerton site.
