Tuolumne Meadows Man looking at Swinging Bridge B&W Redwoods

Several of my Yosemite photos, taken May 2001.
L-R: Tuolumne Meadows, Swinging Bridge, and redwoods in B&W.

I underexposed these photos about 1 or 2 stops to get the desired exposure. I did some "adjusting" of the exposure in Photoshop, but frankly, these pictures didn't need much "tweaking".

Photography in Yosemite

This photo page is still heavily under construction.  But, one pearl of wisdom I will impart right now, is underexpose!   California's sun is very intense---if you follow your camera's light meter, most sunny outdoor pictures will be washed out and overexposed if you abide by the recommended settings.  For instance, if you have 100 ASA film, you might try to set your camera's ASA speed at 200 (or I usually do 400) ASA.   Or, if your shutter speed should be 125, set it at 500, etc. etc.  Give it a try.

Also, try "bracketing", or taking the same picture with different settings.   One of them will be to your liking. I highly recommend "bracketing" - it's my "insurance policy" - I know at least one photo will look right!

That is all the info I have on photography in Yosemite!  Come back soon for more info and links!

Many more Yosemite photos are at my new domain, Bearclover.net, along with other California photography.
