Redwood MugI used a wonderful red earthenware (from Aardvark, of Santa Ana, CA) to make this mug. Using commercial, food-safe glazes, I lightly carved and painted and then glazed the redwoods onto the mug |

Half Dome Cup.Once again, I used some of Aardvark's clay, their very fine white earthenware, to make this cup. I used a "watercolor" type of ceramic oxide, to paint Half Dome on the pot. |
Earthenware mugs.Since I am also a portrait artist, I sometimes integrate faces onto my pottery. These mugs were also created using earthenware, and decorated with commercial "underglazes" (ceramic paints.) |

Another Redwood Mug.One can never have too many Redwood Mugs! I like to make my Redwood mugs on the larger side, they usually can hold about 20 ounces of fluid, and are about 8 inches tall. I enjoy carving the texture onto the mug, I think it gives a little more interest to the finished work.

Green Leaf BowlInspired by the oak leaves in Yosemite, I created this "leaf bowl". I used red earthenware, covered it with underglazes, and scribbled, scratched, and painted my leaf design onto the base coat of underglaze. I had a lot of fun! Click here to see an up-close detail of the decoration on this bowl. |

Stoneware Leaf Bowl.I used the same type of "ceramic watercolors" that I used on the Half Dome Cup to paint these leaf decorations on this bowl. I was inspired to create my "Leafware" by Yosemite, and had my leaf pottery displayed at the Ansel Adams Gallery in Yosemite National Park for awhile. To see a close-up of my "ceramic watercolor" technique on this bowl, click here. |
