PROFESSIONAL HISTORY

3/95 - present: Research Assistant, Human Attention and Performance Laboratory, Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta, GA
Played a major role in planning, conducting and reporting a study of World Wide Web navigation in older adults.
  - Participated in planning and data collection.
  - Developed an HTML hands-on tutorial for Web navigation tasks.
  - Analyzed data and wrote initial drafts of report.
  - Presented initial results at ACM CHI ‘97 conference in March, 1997.
Coordinated a focus group project designed to discover major usability issues for older adults.
  - Recruited and conducted eight focus groups in diverse communities.
  - Developed a multidimensional coding scheme for the transcripts.
  - Developed a suite of Word for Windows macros to automate the process of coding text and extracting coded text into easily sorted tables.
  - Analyzed coded data and wrote initial drafts of report.
Taught the laboratory section of an applied experimental psychology course.

6/96 - 10/96: Human Factors Intern, Siemens Software Usability Center, Johnson City, TN
Performed planning, design, and evaluation of automation software displays.
  - Found and reported on usability issues with panel configuration software.
  - Planned a usability test of this software.
  - Designed a new set of operator displays for handling factory action requests, and new displays for engineers to configure these features.
  - Created an questionnaire web page to collect user data.

6/91 - 3/95: Cognitive Engineer, NCR Human Interface Technology Center, Atlanta, GA
Conducted research and design for an intelligent tutoring system prototype to train operators of combustible gas indicators (CGIs).
  - Researched and wrote an extensive needs analysis for CGI training.
  - Designed simulation-based multimedia user interface for training delivery, as well as user interface for administrative functions.
  - Designed multiple versions of lessons, to be adapted to users' performance.
  - Recruited, trained, and supervised other lesson designers.
  - Collaborated extensively with programmers to design lesson adaptation.
Conducted research, design, and evaluation for an adaptive help prototype for retail point-of-sale terminals.
  - Analyzed point-of-sale terminal operation and researched usability issues.
  - Wrote different levels of online help material to be presented by the prototype. Developed a table relating help displays to internal states of the point-of-sale system, which was then used to develop prototype code.
  - Conducted an experiment evaluating user performance with the prototype. Documented and reported results.

6/86 - 6/91: Senior Product Information Analyst, Unisys Atlanta Development Center, Atlanta, GA
Conducted user interface design for a major financial product.
  - Researched, wrote and maintained the user interface standards document.
  - Planned and managed design of displays and reports, supervising a team of window authors. Received a Short-Term Achievement Award for this effort.
  - Developed displays for the initial prototype.
Researched and wrote 10 technical reference manuals about a major accounting system for the financial industry.
