Any ideas?

Needs of the single might include:
1. modern Kemp piston, correctly fitted
2. correctly fittEd and supported liner
3. cycle's oil feed system inspected
4. later "lever" type fuel tapes with larger bores--both open at speed
5. opened vent in fuel cap (hole)
6. ignition timing of 37-38 deg. and no more
7 Toga repo. glass pac.
8 jetting-- may need to richen. Carb type might need a review.
9. I suggest Valvoline 40wt racing OIL
10. cooler plug
11. 49-50 t.-rear sprocket to increase revs in 4th; early omegas known to have some durability under severe load/speed situations. Far better designs and silicon alloys used now. What cams are fitted? Use no higher than 7.3 to 1 (8 to 1 tops) due to modern gas lack of load, detonation can be a real danger if you run too hot.

2) RE: weak brakes (Vincents)
We have brake lining segments made-excellent results-if all related factors are properly tended to (oil-free contact surfaces, etc.). They are pre-curved for bonding-on, or can be riveted. Each segment is $20.00 (plus shipping).

Here's a question:
The original steel rims on my Shadow (20"/19") are getting old. So are
the spokes. The tire selection is getting VERY old. I'm thinking
21"/19" replacements, aluminum, with SS spokes. Do you have experience
with this combo, does it affect handling and tank-slapper tendency... or
do you have other combos you'd recommend? Bike is a Sunday Afternoon
sportster, no racing, no shows...
We have run lighting alloy wheels, both front and rear for decades! Only remarks are superb, precise handling and absolutely stable through corners and curves, pure on rails at all speeds. Steering input is slowed by stronger gyro effect! We love it! Reslts in greater ground clearance beneath clutch dome--be sure suspension springs are not tired and sacked out. Steering damper plates clean (of course) and with good bite-and always in use!
Many Harleys used 21" front tires so are readily obtainable, ditto tubes. Rears-no problem. Rims and spokes (ss) avail. from Buchanan's Frame Shop.

PS--Suspension dampers, C types, can be drastically improved, ie. leak-proofed, and give faultless handling. Personally developed, and extensively tested. Thanks again for the e-mail.

4) I have a Norvin that has been in pieces for the past year ever since I
shredded the gearbox. Before it goes back together, I want to do the
cylinder stud conversion to shorter ones so that in the future, I can
remove the heads without having to remove the engine. I would very much
appreciate any info any of you might have on this topic. In particular,
I need a set of modified studs and nuts, or a contact for someone who
could make them for me.
RE: 2 piece head stud/nuts:
not production items, however, you should contact Ron Kemp or Tony Maughan re availability. Also Trevor Southwell may be able to supply same.

1) Sid I own a 51 Comet which destroyed its piston, it was an omega that I had
gotten from the VOC spares co about 10 years ago. Everything from the ring
lands down was gone, I sent the remains to the VOC spares co but they
couldn't id the problem. I have purchased a new piston, rod assy. and barrel
but I don't want a repeat performance. I seem to get more power our of 3rd than top gear.
